A Misplaced Trowel in the Greenhouse-

English 원문
Ula tilted the watering can, and a neat ribbon of water met the soil before splashing against the clay rim with an abrupt metallic ring.
At once the familiar hush of the greenhouse draped around her palms: warm glass on one side, cool leaf undersides on the other. Tradition placed every tool in a strict line along the central bench, yet today the hand trowel rested upside-down, its handle damp as though recently gripped. Further on, a seedling tray sat crooked, grains of fresh compost peppering the stone flag below. She straightened the tray, brushed grit from her fingertips, and felt the drip from the overhead pipe find her wrist—another small sign added to a growing tally.
A soft footfall rustled leaves behind the tomato stakes. Eamon emerged, sleeves rolled, carrying a reel of jute twine. “Morning,” he offered, voice low enough to keep the warmth intact. He threaded between planters, pausing when his boot nudged the misplaced trowel. The rows of seedlings, staggered like green stairs, cast an optimistic outlook across the benches, each tray a promise of sustainable growth that sunlight coaxed upward by degrees. Ula watched his stride slow at every irregularity she had already noted, and her own pace faltered; the pattern no longer belonged solely to her eye.
Water beads ran down a pane, collecting in the recess of a loose bolt. Ula pressed her thumb against the glass to feel the stored heat, then turned the vent handle a quarter-turn. Dry air slipped inside, shaving two degrees from her forearm. She reached for the can again, stopped halfway, and studied the carrot seedlings nearest the aisle: their cotyledons drooped, not from thirst but from a slight compression in the soil. Someone’s heel must have grazed the tray earlier, and her naïve certainty that only she tended this corner wilted alongside the leaves. Without speaking, she lifted the tray, raked the soil surface gently, and set it upon a thicker plank.
Eamon tied a loose vine to its stake, glanced toward her handiwork, and said nothing. Silence settled like pollen until the overhead drip struck the clay tray twice in succession—a threshold Ula finally acknowledged. She placed the watering can back where the day had begun, but this time her wrist rolled the spout inward, and the vessel touched down softer than before, tracing a smaller ring of moisture on the bench’s worn wood.
