The cat explored the edge with whiskers and nose. It tapped the strap and paused with one paw raised. The loop felt warm against its nose, not stiff.

The cat hooked a claw and pulled the warm loop. The strap stretched a little, and it slipped off. The door moved, and a broom inside tipped against metal.

The broom knocked a small bucket, and water spilled. The splash turned soapy, and slow drops tapped a rhythm. Harris blinked at the narrow gap. "It is open a little now." A thin line of light fell across the floor. The cat slid through and placed its paws on dry wood.
