It was late afternoon when Marco, a visiting botanist, entered the narrow forest path. He had planned to photograph a rare wildflower rumored to grow inside a quiet glade beyond the stream. Light slanted between trunks, yet the distance looked slight on his folded map. A bent signpost lay forgotten under leaves; without guidance he chose the trail that curved uphill. Soon, damp earth clung to his boots and slowed each step. A fallen branch, heavy and twisted, blocked the track. While detouring around mossy stones, Marco glanced at the sky—the sun had already touched the ridge. Fewer rays reached the undergrowth, and the colors around him turned softer.

A sudden idea flickered when a small metal ornament, once attached to his backpack zipper, caught the fading light. He removed the shiny piece and carried it like a mirror. After scrambling over slick roots, he discovered the glade at last. The wildflower stood alone near a log, its petals trembling under the breeze. Sunlight had almost vanished, yet the ornament reflected a narrow beam onto the blossom. Marco's camera, which had been prepared earlier, captured several sharp images. Wind stirred leaves overhead, then quiet settled again. The last picture showed the petals glowing against deep green shadows. Marco exhaled, lowered the camera, and let the ornament dangle quietly from his hand.
