Clara Beneath the Evening Sky-

English 原文
At sunset, Clara unfolded a narrow tripod on the school’s empty football field. She aimed to capture the first clear image of tonight’s planet cluster, a target she had chased since winter. The eyepiece had been polished by her neighbor, yet tiny scratches flickered across the glass. When she locked the telescope in place, one leg sank into soft turf, tilting the tube left. Her shoulders jerked upward; the careful alignment vanished. She lifted the leg and slid a forgotten workbook beneath it, but the weight leaned again. If she had checked the ground earlier, she would have chosen the wooden track instead. Clouds drifted in low bands, and for a moment the bright western glow faded. Tension tightened around the field like a rope, and Clara tapped her watch while twilight thinned.
A small breeze slid over the grass, rocking the instrument momentarily. Milo, wandering back from the sheds, noticed her struggle. “Rubber bands,” he murmured, pressing two into her palm. They would play a vital role in her next attempt. Clara looped one band from the leg to the central brace, then braced the second around the eyepiece cap for extra grip. The joints stopped shivering; metal and plastic settled with quiet clicks. The moving parts revealed a fascination equal to the sky’s glow, and her breath steadied as Jupiter rose above the scoreboard. The lens cleared, and the planet’s bright belt sharpened. Then, without warning, a pale streak crossed the view—an unnoticed comet brushing through the frame. Milo gasped; Clara’s jaw dropped, but hands stayed firm on the focus wheel. Wind fell away, clouds parted, and starlight strengthened. Above the quiet field, the steady telescope stood against the dark canvas of sky.
