Steam on Pine Ridge-

English 原文
Milo balanced a steel kettle against his hip and started up Pine Ridge at dawn. A quiet bench near the top had always offered the clearest southern horizon. He hoped to brew fresh tea there before the early clouds drifted across the valley. Weeks earlier, a light earthquake had cracked parts of the trail, so each step required care. Pale dust rose every time his boot edged over loose stones, blurring the prints behind him. The air carried pine resin and a distant river thrum, steady like a clock.
Halfway up, the first obstacle appeared where fallen branches formed a rough lattice across the narrow path. Milo nudged one branch aside, yet another sprang back and rattled the kettle against his knee. He shifted his grip, hooking the handle through his belt, but the added swing upset his balance. For a moment his boot slipped on gravel, and both arms flailed like windmill blades. By the time he steadied himself, the stove had been knocked loose from its strap. He crouched, reattached the buckle, and continued upward with shorter strides to dampen the swinging metal. Soon the path narrowed again where a fresh landslide had tilted a cedar across the slope. Milo ducked under the angled trunk, the kettle clanging softly, while dry needles stung his cheeks.
At last the bench came into sight, but a blanket of fog masked every familiar landmark beyond it. If he had reached the ridge earlier, he would have seen pink bands stretching over distant peaks. Accepting the gray curtain, he unfolded the stove, filled the kettle, and sparked a tiny flame. Steam rose into the damp air, twisting through the fog until a weak breeze carried the scent downhill. A profound hush settled then, broken only by the gentle click inside the warming metal shell. The fog thinned without warning, revealing a breathtaking panorama of sunlit roofs sparkling like scattered coins. Milo lifted the kettle, poured amber liquid into his cup, and a heartwarming aroma drifted around the bench. Steam lingered above the cup while light rested on the quiet ridge.
