English 原文

The yearly book fair buzzed inside the town hall. Ella carried a slim notebook that she had filled with riddles. She hoped to reach the visiting author and show the pages. The hall has filled since dawn, and a long line already curved between folding chairs. A spilled drink left one patch of floor sticky, so each step required care. While the crowd inched forward, a tall boy beside her balanced a stack of hardcovers; their elbows touched whenever the line shifted. He moved deliberately, yet the pile still slid. One book toppled, brushed Ella’s arm, and her notebook fell open on the sticky spot. Pages clung to the floor.

Ella knelt, peeled the sheets up, and wiped them against her sleeve. The line advanced without her. The boy crouched too, gathering loose corners. Gradually they created space by resting his hardcovers as a short barrier. A gentle clap sounded: the author had walked around the table to help. His coat hung loose, and a proud tilt of his shoulders showed satisfaction in the scene before a single word left his mouth. He lifted Ella’s last page, now clean, and placed it on the table edge. The crowd, seeing the small rescue, parted just enough. Ella and the boy stepped forward together, and the author signed both their books while the sticky floor finally stayed quiet.
