English 原文
Maris paused at the edge of the deserted glasshouse, where cracked panes gleamed like broken mirrors. The afternoon sky pressed through them in broad cerulean swaths, tinting weeds that crowded the path. Once, polished tiles guided gardeners, but now warped roots had lifted the pattern into narrow ridges. A folded camp stool tapped against her thigh; she raised it, searching for level ground. The plan appeared simple: capture the way late-day light crawled across the murals before winter rain washed the colors away. She slipped between hanging ivy, boots crunching littered gravel, and stopped before the swollen wooden door.
Her shoulder met the door. The latch refused, then metal surrendered with a hollow pop, sending dust upward in slow spirals. Inside, warmth mingled with a faint jasmine trace from vines that had crept through shattered vents. Benches listed under their own weight, and flaking rails formed irregular stripes along the floor. She unfolded the stool, balanced a sketchbook on her knee, and raised a paint card toward a faded wall panel, testing pigments under uneven glare. A soft ticking echoed overhead; loose rafters swayed. Something beyond ordinary stillness appeared alive in the space, though no person had crossed the threshold for years.
Wind burst through a broken skylight, and pages fluttered wildly. A startled flock of sparrows rose spontaneously from the rafters, wings drumming the stale air. Their sudden flight jarred a rotten plank; the timber slipped, crashed beside her boots, and light poured through the new gap. That shaft revealed a hidden mosaic high on the west wall, its glazed tesserae throwing multicolored splendor across drifting dust. Insects, teeming and weightless, spun through the brightness like flecks in a shaken snow globe. Maris nudged the fallen plank aside, shifted her stool, and began tracing the freshly exposed pattern, pencil moving with brisk, deliberate strokes.
She searched for a better angle and stepped onto a storage crate. The wood creaked but held. Above, the ancient station clock, long frozen, clicked once, gears freed by the same gust that had disturbed the birds. The minute hand inched forward, marking time again while dust drifted from the housing. Maris glanced up, then down to her sketch—new lines mirrored the clock’s slow advance. Outside, clouds gathered, dimming the beam; yet the stained surface still glowed softly, every hue sharper against the growing grey. Cerulean shards of glass rested among the quiet beams.
