English 原文
The mountain track sloped gently, yet scattered stones tapped against Mira’s boots with every careful step. Between scattered firs, afternoon light filtered in thin stripes, striking damp bark and the pale backs of fallen leaves. A mild breeze carried resin, and somewhere far below, water echoed against hidden rocks. Mira had planned this late-day hike to check an old footbridge marked on her grandfather’s sketchy map. She had packed rope, a metal flask, and a narrow flashlight, certain the return stretch would darken quickly. The transition from warm daylight toward uncertain dusk already narrowed around her, turning bright greens into muted copper.
Near a bend, a buzzing knot brushed her ear; a lone yellowjacket circled her collar, then drifted toward purple flowers. She paused, shifted the pack, then continued until rotten wood blocked the path. Enormous mushrooms clung to the stump; thick caps pressed against bark, forming a living symbiosis of beige and brown. Mira tested the surface, and sponge-soft fibers collapsed instantly beneath her boot. If she had charged forward, her weight would have sunk straight through. She backtracked, climbed a shallow bank, and rejoined the trail where fern fronds hid damp stones that slid underfoot.
Minutes later, the river appeared, wider than the sketch had implied, and a narrow plank bridge stretched across bright water. Several boards had been repaired; new pine shone beside grey originals, yet one loose plank rocked whenever current shook the support beam. Mira crouched, balanced her weight, and carefully reached for the wobbling slat. The board flipped, revealing a metal box wedged underneath, still surprisingly dry. She eased it out; the lid bore scratches from years of shifting wood. Inside, a tiny wind-up music toy clicked, proving someone else had visited long after the bridge had been built. Soft light from her flashlight rested on the steady river-washed boards beneath.
