Warm salt air brushed the shore, and small shells clicked under each wave. Two cousins, Leo and Mira, knelt beside a flat stretch of wet sand. They shared one clear goal: build a tall sandcastle before noon. The vacation beach has already filled with umbrellas, coolers, and a noisy game of tag. Water buckets, plastic shovels, and a toy rake waited beside their knees. Leo had studied castle pictures at home, so he drew towers with his finger. Mira packed damp sand into a bucket that had once held fruit.

Trouble arrived quickly when the rising tide crept closer. At the same time, running feet from the tag players shook the ground. A heel crashed into a wall they had shaped, sending sandy crumbs outward. One tower was flattened by the sudden impact. Their first tactics failed, and the castle leaned toward the water. Mira lifted buckets while Leo carved a deep moat instead.

The trench caught the next wave and slowed its force. While they reinforced the base, an orange crab popped from the wet moat. It scuttled around the tiny gate, surprising every child nearby into laughter. The unexpected guard distracted the runners, and their steps stayed farther away. With fewer shakes and the sea held back, the cousins finally succeeded. A last shell roof settled on the highest tower, shining in the noon light.
