English 原文
Rowan stepped off the gravel road and onto the narrow plankway that crossed the restored wetland. Volunteers had worked all spring to nurture reeds and water lilies here, and the fresh boards still smelled of pine resin. He carried a folded tripod and a sketchbook, hoping to reach the observation platform before the afternoon light faded. Mud sucked at the posts below, and a light breeze pressed against his jacket. At the far end, a single pioneer willow stood taller than the grasses around it, its thin crown shaking loose droplets from the morning rain.
The staircase to the platform climbed above the cattails in a gentle spiral. Halfway up, a loose screw forced Rowan to shift his weight; the step groaned but held. When he reached the top, the panorama widened in every direction—pools glittered, clouds drifted, and distant roofs lined the horizon like tiny toys. He anchored the tripod, opened the sketchbook, and began tracing the sweep of sky against water. A sudden gust flipped the pages; one sheet tore free and sailed downward, skating over the surface before landing face-up among the lily pads.
Rowan bounded down the stairs, boots thudding. At the bottom, a plank blocked his stride; tightening his grip on the rail, he swung over it and splashed into knee-deep water. Ripples spread. From the reeds, an otter—a sleek, bright-eyed mammal—broke the surface, startled by the commotion. The animal nosed the drifting sheet, then paddled away, leaving small circles that lapped against Rowan’s legs. He reached for the paper, but a crosswind pushed it just beyond his fingertips.
He searched for something longer than his arm. A broken cattail stem floated near the bank; he hooked it beneath the page and dragged the soggy sheet closer. Water streaked the charcoal lines, yet the outline of the distant roofs remained. He pressed the sheet flat against a sun-warmed rock, droplets sliding off the edge. As he straightened, a low rumble passed overhead—an unseen train on the embankment beyond the trees—shivering the surface of the pools for a moment before the sound faded.
Reeds swayed while the soaked page rested on a flat stone.
