Maya leaned against the cool rail of the city aquarium, phone ready. She has visited the aquarium many times but never noticed such lively movement. Cool air drifted from hidden vents, and faint salt mixed with glassy smell near the rail. Inside the tall window, cold ocean water swirled around rocks painted with deep blues. A glass panel that curved slightly warped the scene. Low voices blended with soft hums from water pumps under the floor. A tight circle of visitors pressed forward, blocking the lower view. Beyond their shoulders, a small penguin hopped sideways in a quick dance, and Maya hoped to capture it.

She raised the phone above the crowd, yet ceiling lights produced a silver glare across the glass. She lowered the device, then knelt beside a drainage grate where the crowd left a narrow gap. From that angle, reflections weakened, but the penguin slid into deeper water and vanished. Suddenly, a passing cloud muted the lights, and the scene cleared like a curtain lifting. At that instant, the penguin burst upward in a spray. A walrus behind it pushed from the floor, flippers wide. Maya tapped the screen once; the shutter sounded over the muffled splash.
