English 原文
Felix pushed open the side door of the disused railway lounge, and stale air rolled past his coat. Long benches stood under film-coated windows, their varnish patched by time. Cardboard boxes of literature slumped beside a cold radiator; someone had scrawled the year of a forgotten book fair on their lids, now almost unreadable. A heartwarming glow came from a small electric stove on a table, and its coil ticked each time the current cycled. Felix set a thick mug of tea near the edge, aiming to sort the books before the last commuter train rumbled outside.
He reached for the first box, but its bottom caught on a nail raised from the floorboard. Wood rasped against cardboard until the nail bent and the box slid free, spilling catalog cards in uneven piles. While he stacked the cards, a pressed flower fluttered from one volume and landed on his sleeve. Its brittle scent made him reminisce about an earlier winter evening in the same lounge, when a traveling companion had read poems aloud between departures. The image flickered only long enough for his hand to turn the page; the room around him remained unchanged except for dust loosening in the air.
Outside, wind hurried along the tracks, slipped through a cracked pane, and struck the stove’s cord. The stove jolted; the mug of tea trembled, tilted, and released a thin stream across the tabletop. Felix lunged, catching the cup, but amber liquid raced along a groove toward a stack of pamphlets. At that moment a second door opened. Mara, the station caretaker, stepped in, her boots scattering grit across the floor. She knelt without a word, sliding a metal tray under the flow. Tea met tin with a sharp patter, and the spill slowed.
Felix lifted the pamphlets onto an upturned crate while Mara wiped the surface with an old timetable sheet. The wind eased; paper settled, and the stove’s coil brightened again. Mara found an enamel kettle on a shelf, filled it from a steel sink, and set it on the coil. Water began to thrum. Felix offered the rescued cup; Mara shrugged, pointed at the empty kettle, and raised an eyebrow. He nodded, moved aside, and arranged the damp pamphlets in a loose fan near the radiator. Steam curled above the fresh mug, hanging beneath the cracked glass.
