She climbed the last incline, knees brushing coarse heather. A slab shifted under her weight; slate grated, slid, and exposed a rectangle of chiseled steps hidden beneath the soil. Dust puffed upward, and the unexpected staircase stretched toward a ledge she had not noticed moments earlier.
