English 原文
Morning light formed long stripes between canvas roofs of the weekend flea market. Maya stopped at a narrow table where wooden trays held coins, buttons, and faded keys. A distant radio buzzed behind the stall, mixing with footsteps on gravel. Felix, a stamp collector who moved methodically along the same row, paused beside her. Both hands reached for the smallest silver disc in the nearest tray. Their fingertips touched the cool metal at the same instant. Maya raised an eyebrow; Felix responded with a brief nod, then released the coin. She slowly tilted the disc toward him, and he mirrored the gesture.
Maya had carried a compact magnifying glass in her bag, certain it would uncover every detail. The coin had been stored inside a cloudy plastic sleeve, and grime fogged the date. She balanced the glass over the worn surface, yet morning glare bounced off the lens. Felix gently angled a cardboard sheet above, hoping to block the light. The shadow helped, but her wrist shook when a passer-by brushed her elbow. She tried again, pressing the lens closer, and the edge of the table trembled. A jar of emerald relish, left from the snack vendor’s display, slid toward them. Before either hand reacted, the lid clicked open and a bright drop splashed across the coin.
The green smear spread in a thin film, and the sugary smell rose between them. Through the magnifying glass the liquid behaved like tinted water, filling tiny cuts that ordinary light had hidden. The date now read ‘1993’, not the promised nineteenth-century mark stamped on the label. Felix puffed out a slow breath; Maya’s shoulders lifted then shook, and she set the coin back into the tray. Instead of competing, both leaned against the table rim to enjoy the moment of unexpected clarity. The stall keeper wiped the wood, replaced the jar, and coins shifted while distant music hung above the crowded aisle.
