The Flash That Stirred the Cellar-

English 原文
A green bulb hung from a low beam and buzzed, its glare slicing through the cellar dust. Sara angled a round glass jar toward the bulb, checking the cloudy liquid inside. Refraction split the beam into specks of color that danced over a cracked mirror shard on the shelf. The mirror bounced a bright ribbon across the stone wall, where faint outlines of bird wings marked an old chart of migration seasons. Fascinated by the shifting colors, she balanced the jar on a crate.
The rainbow stripe glided upward and fell on a small bat dozing against a cobwebbed rafter. Startled, the creature fluttered free and grazed the hanging lantern. The lantern swung, and its metal hook scraped a rack of empty bottles; reflections scattered like spinning coins along the floor. A mouse family, part of the hidden wildlife under a barrel, dashed through the flashing corridor and nudged an iron rod that propped a loose step. The rod rolled, the step dropped, and glass began to slide toward the trapdoor. Sara pinched the lantern chain, pivoted it toward the wall, and glare shifted away from the bottles. She then wedged a wooden slat under the step, halting the slide. During the brief recovery of stillness, droplets inside the jar returned to clear layers, and the bat tucked its wings back into shadow. Dust hovered inside the narrow beam, and the colored stripe held steady against the far stone.
