Cup Rattle in the Corridor-

English 原文
A muted hum drifted from the corridor printer, its plastic shell vibrating against the smooth metal table. Luke pressed his palm on the warm cover, hoping the agenda pages had finally emerged. The tray remained stubbornly empty, so he gently tugged at the stiff side panel. Sticky toner residue smeared his fingertips; a bound roll of paper sat wedged between dusty rollers. Conventional wisdom said to wait for maintenance, yet the meeting room clock ticked forward. If the tray jammed again, the meeting would begin without any printed guidance at all. He had already rebooted the vexed projector twice, and chairs scraped impatient lines across the carpet behind him. With two minutes left, he braced both hands, eased the jammed bundle backward, and felt the weight shift.
As the bundle cleared the rollers, the newly freed pages fanned outward like smooth playing cards and spilled onto the polished floor. Their glossy edges slid over the tiles, nudging a knee-high stack of printed invoices that had been balanced near the corridor wall. The stack lost structural integrity at its base; half the pile toppled, bumping a metal waste bin. The bin rolled toward the break room threshold, its rim rasping against linoleum, then kissed the lighter plastic doorstop. The doorstop tipped and tapped the half-open break room door just inside the frame. The panel drifted wider and caught a wheeled cart loaded with ceramic cups cooling after rinsing.
The cart started a slow glide, its rubber wheels barely whispering across the corridor’s smooth vinyl. Each cup clinked a fraction of a millimeter apart, yet none tipped. Luke lunged forward, sliding on scattered pages, and pressed his shoes against the cart’s metal frame. The soft carpet strip outside the meeting room absorbed the remaining momentum and helped him halt the drift. One cup still trembled in its saucer, porcelain vibrating against porcelain, but the ring soon quieted. Papers now lay in broad, overlapping sheets, forming a white river that stretched from printer to break room door. A single agenda page, corner curled upward by the air conditioner’s breeze, lifted and fluttered toward the dim stairwell beyond.
