The smooth top slanted just enough for the spill to travel. It curved around a pile of rubber bands, picked up two loose stamps, and glided toward the waiting-area ticket tray. Hector’s shoulders tightened; if the water spread any farther, the scale would refuse to weigh their parcel. He reached for tissue, but a new beep startled him, and the tray jolted, tossing a paper number into the stream.
