The Scratch That Moved Like a Jellyfish-

English 原文
A faint gouge scored the octagonal bolt that anchored the joystick’s base. The line stopped halfway around the metal, as though an invisible hand had hesitated—did the mark signal wear or a fresh problem waiting to bloom?
In the screen’s blue glow a feather-shaped jellyfish drifted, each pulse delayed by the one-second lag between command and reply. Threads of silt swirled whenever the thrusters breathed, then settled back like slow snow. Nowhere in that quiet cone of light could the creature feel the room’s small tension; it simply glided, its bell folding and unfolding with quiet momentum.
Zara rolled the stick left, then paused. The ROV obeyed with a mild stagger, the cable drum beside her answering with a soft oscillation. Luca—the station’s part-time therapist, notebook closed under his arm—watched from the doorway but did not intervene; his presence reminded her that patience could overcome most instrument quirks. An unexpected shiver raced through the joystick, and, for a heartbeat, she thought the scratch had widened. What caught her attention was the bolt itself: the gouge followed the same gentle curve the jellyfish traced on the feed. At this juncture she loosened her grip, letting the ROV hover while she flexed stiff fingers. Her thumbnail, half-moon pale, matched the new arc exactly.
Only when the feed steadied did Zara breathe again. She rotated the joystick housing; the bolt turned smoothly, unharmed, the scratch no deeper than before. Had the housing been brittle, it would have cracked, yet it remained firm—she had pressed too hard, nothing more. As though the floor were rocking under an unseen swell, she shifted her stance and tapped a finer correction into the stick; the jellyfish drifted aside, revealing a mineral chimney that glimmered like wet slate. The cable drum recoiled a quarter turn, then stalled, momentum spent. Luca set his notebook on the console, palm resting flat, offering silent companionship.
A minute later the ROV completed a slow circle and returned to its starting corridor of water. Zara’s eyes moved from the chimney on the monitor back to the joystick. The scratch she had fretted over now resembled the jellyfish’s path—no danger, only record of pressure applied in earnest. She tightened the retaining cap with two fingers, felt the metal settle, and nudged the stick toward the next pocket of darkness.
