Stones Under the Swaying Bottle-

English 原文
Light flecks of grass had clung to Thea’s knees after an hour of crouching beside the tripod base. The bottle pendulum still swung, yet each arc now brushed the paper because one stick had sunk into a damp pocket of soil. Her thighs burned as she balanced on the balls of her feet, and the smooth plastic felt sticky where dried drips skinned the surface. Nearby, Erik mixed fresh colours, stirring with slow wrists while a shaggy sheepdog waited by the supply bag, ears swivelling at every swing. Beyond the field, a shimmering lake view glittered; above it a cumulus towered, layered white on white like an ivory tower. Three flat stones, she decided, would lift the sinking leg a finger’s breadth. She slid the first pebble under the wood; the frame rose but still leaned.
Calf muscles tightened while she searched for the second stone, toes gripping the soft ground for balance. This piece, as wide as her palm, rasped beneath the tripod and added perhaps half the needed gap; the bottle still kissed the paper, leaving a blurred stripe. A gust spun the pendulum into an uneven ellipse, spraying violet dots beyond the planned curve. The dog bounded forward, then froze, paws rigid, tail held mid-air. Thea grabbed a paint-stirring stick, wedged its flat end under the wood, and levered space for a third shard. When that final slice of slate slid home, the tripod straightened in a single jolt, and the bottle cleared the sheet by a full centimetre.
She braced both heels, gave the bottle a measured push, and fresh momentum carried a clean swing; steady drops mapped a widening spiral while the string creaked at each quiet apex. Warm sunlight continued to nurture tiny clover heads brushing her ankles, and a faded sticker on her water jug showed a geothermal plant, now freckled with paint mist. Erik lifted his phone to capture the pattern as the sheepdog circled carefully outside the paper’s edge. At the same hour, down the slope where reeds swayed, a lone mallard glided across the water, and its wake folded the reflected colours into restless stripes.
