Seconds Lost to a Sparrow-

English 原文
"A sparrow hopped inside."
Tess jerked her feet away from the gritty platform tile, surprised by the flash of amber wings. The afternoon heatwave had soaked through the roof, and warm air drifted above the ticket gate like thick honey. She tapped her travel card against the reader, yet a red light blinked and the turnstile stayed firm. Refilling the card before the next bus arrived became her task for the short transfer ahead. A slow line already snaked from the single recharge machine beside the dusty timetable panel. Each passenger moved with thoroughness to avoid spilling the coins they held in trembling hands. Tess stepped behind Rafael, but the sparrow fluttered past her knee and disappeared beneath a caramel-colored seat cushion. The gate display flashed amber numbers warning only three minutes remained before boarding would begin.
A uniformed laborer wheeled a mop bucket along the aisle, the metal handle ringing softly against the rust-brown pail. Warm detergent smell lifted, adding sticky discomfort to the already thick air around the waiting passengers. Tess shifted her weight and glanced at the glowing clock, yet the queue in front of her barely moved. The sparrow burst from beneath the seat holding a ticket stub in its beak, then hopped toward daylight. Tess's fingers drummed against the silent card slot while her eyes darted between the machine and the restless creature. If she had kept waiting in the queue, the gates would have sealed before her turn. She crouched and scattered a breadcrumb trail toward the sliding doors, using her palm to block the breeze. The sparrow traced the path, feathers ruffling under the draft, and then lifted through the doorway into the concourse.
The queue advanced without her, and the recharge machine dimmed as a maintenance message scrolled across its dull screen. Nearby, the laborer finished mopping and swung open a side luggage gate, leaving a clear passage between two rails. Tess slipped through the gap with Rafael, and the half-used card still possessed enough credit to register a green light. They hurried downstairs to the vehicle bay, soft golden glow from a coffee kiosk slanting over the polished handrails. Inside the almost full bus, Rafael found two seats together while Tess slid beside him and drew a long breath. Tess tightened the backpack strap across her shoulder, and behind the closing doors a small feather slipped between two tiles unnoticed.
