English 原文
Two bright rectangles of light danced over the carpet as Cruz crouched by the window, tilting a small mirror. Cora noticed the target card taped to the far wall and felt the carpet weave press into her knees when she knelt. Cruz kept one hand steady, repairing a tiny slip in his relay, while Cora’s free hand gathered tools from the box. A quick burst of intuition became a half-degree twist of her wrist, guiding the first mirror she placed beside Cruz’s. She slid a wooden sculpting tool under the frame, and the spot leaped onto a chair back, a sprinkle of pearls.
Confident, she added a second mirror, balancing it on a glossy art book whose cover warmed beneath the beam. Moments later, she carried a third mirror in a slow waddle across the path, careful not to block the light. She angled that mirror too, and the spot jumped again, now racing toward the curling corner of the card. Heat built quietly; the art book’s coating softened, the sculpting tool slid a millimetre, and the middle mirror shivered off-line. Its runaway beam streaked across the ceiling, bounced into Cruz’s relay, and both light paths twisted wild across the shelves. If the mirrors drifted even a fraction more, the afternoon’s careful work would scatter completely around the room.
Cora pressed her palm flat on the carpet, slid forward, and pinched the slipping mirror by its cool plastic edge. Instead of re-tilting everything, she tugged the second mirror—the one perched on the warmed art book—out of the chain. The first bounce shot straight to the chair, skipped the vacant space, and struck the target card with a tight white circle. Beside the window, an adult turned a magazine page, the brief rustle showing the curtain gap still steady. Cora kept her shoulders low; if the spot wandered again, she would carry felt wedges instead of more mirrors. Near the target card, a slow spiral of dust motes kept turning inside the quiet beam.
