English 原文
Reese plunged the swollen yellow sponge into the warm basin, and suds hissed against his sleeves. A quick squeeze drew a wet rush that slapped back into the water, raising a hollow glug. He crossed the drip path toward a sun-faded section of garden table, each footstep marked by a patter as droplets escaped the sponge. The first sweep across the plastic surface produced a low scrape, then silence; yet, as air passed over the patch, a faint chalky film appeared. He dipped the sponge into the rinse bucket, but the water inside murmured with trapped bubbles and released a muted burble of soap. A ridge of foam seemed to mobilize support for a thin wave that tipped over the rim and splattered the staging area. Reese paused to contemplate the dull streaks and began to strategize a tighter wring, hoping the next pass would rinse the residue without wasting water.
The second attempt repeated the same quiet scrape, but he pressed harder, and the sponge gave a deeper squelch before a controlled trickle slid over the table edge and dripped into a growing puddle. Cloudy water swirled inside the rinse bucket, its once-clear surface now broken by floating flecks; any fix would be a set of compromise solutions rather than a perfect cure. Reese mobilized the smaller kitchen sponge, flipping it so the green pad met a stubborn corner; the pad rasped softly, dislodging grit, yet tore a sliver that plopped into the bucket with a dull plink. He flicked the fragment free with a fingertip, then nudged an unused dry sponge against the table’s lip, blocking further runoff—the sudden dam thudded once and held. The pale tiles beside the table had been spotless at the start, but scattered splashes now rang against them like tiny bells as drops kept falling. The basin that had been full now rocked gently beneath new ripples, each drip landing in the center and gliding outward in widening circles.
