Emmet stepped inside the meeting room, his furry companion, a grey-spotted terrier, tapping soft nails on the laminate floor. He had prepared a two-minute trailer for tomorrow’s pitch and wanted to watch it once in proper scale. The remote lay ready, yet the essential adapter was nowhere under the steel-grey lid of the desk drawer. The booking board showed only ten spare minutes, so he rummaged deeper, lifting markers, sticky notes, and a cracked HDMI cap. Dust hissed along the drawer rails, but no cable appeared, and the hum overhead felt louder, like wind inside a narrow pipe.

Footsteps in the corridor paused; Felix from design peeked in, carrying a silver laptop and the very adapter locked to its side. The room was double-booked, and his online workshop on reef graphics was due at the same hour. Emmet’s shoulders lifted; the terrier circled Felix, tail sweeping the blue-grey carpet as if measuring new territory. Rather than argue, they pushed two chairs aside, clearing a broad strip of the pale surface. They placed both laptops on the frosted table and agreed to share signal through a splitter.

Emmet gently lifted the compact headset out of the box beside the remote control unit. At once, swirling plankton filled the screen, neon dots drifting lazily through deep sapphire water. The trailer shifted to a quiet wharf where gulls glided over steel-grey waves at dusk. Felix’s workshop recording opened in a corner window, its reef models layering over the aquatic adventure without blocking Emmet’s clip. The terrier’s ears twitched at a digital dolphin call from the nearby speakers, gently echoing beneath the fluorescent buzz. His collar brushed a loose cable, moving the splitter only a centimetre, yet both videos continued without flicker. Both exhaled in one sharp breath, shoulders dropping as the last frame faded into silver light. In the empty room, a faint ozone scent from warming cables hovered.

艾默特輕輕把小型頭戴裝置從盒子裡拿出，放在遙控器旁。螢幕上立刻出現旋轉的浮游生物，霓光點在深藍寶石色水域中緩慢漂移。預告片畫面轉到靜謐的碼頭，海鷗在鋼灰波面上傍晚滑翔。菲利克斯的工作坊錄影以角落視窗開啟，他的礁岩模型疊映在那段「水域探險」動畫上，卻沒有擋住艾默特的影片。附近喇叭播放的電子海豚叫聲讓小狗耳朵一動，微弱回音與日光燈聲交織。他的頸圈掃到一條鬆動的線，讓分配器移動了一公分，但兩段影片依舊毫無閃爍地播放。兩人同時大大吐了口氣，肩膀隨著最後一幀淡入銀光而放鬆。空蕩的房內，只殘留電纜升溫後微弱的臭氧味。
