Frozen Slush Edge-

English 原文
An empty ledge, wide enough for a snow brick, spanned the doorway gap of the half-built fort like a tilted white shelf. Griffon crouched, forearms pressing into his thighs, and brushed loose flakes away to find the flat surface again. The packed ring already hugged his calves; each shift in weight made the low wall wobble, and wet crystals slid down the inner face. Viola, working the opposite arc, had already pressed three fresh bricks into place, so the gap between their sections narrowed. Griffon scooped heavier snow from a dense, alluvial stripe beside the fence, jammed it into the plastic mould, and flipped out a neat block. A prickling sensation spread through his damp gloves as meltwater reached his skin. He carved a shallow slot on the leaning end with the shovel’s edge, then lifted the new brick toward the slot, stretching until his shoulder burned.
A turbulent pocket of wind burst across the yard and slapped the empty mould from the wall top. It skidded over the stamped floor, bounced off a boot print, and raced toward the porch. Griffon lunged after it, boots punching through the crust with each stride, snow clumping around his ankles like heavy cuffs. By the time he retrieved the mould from beneath the porch step, the water bucket had grown a thin glassy lid; tapping it cracked the sheet and sent shards swirling through the slush. He hurried back, breath fogging the air, thighs tightening with effort.
During the brief absence, fresh snow had piled on the doorway ends, bending them further inward so the opening looked like a frozen estuary narrowing toward the yard. Griffon wedged the shovel under the sagging left side and levered upward; Viola steadied the opposite side without speaking. He ladled slushy water between the bricks, and the icy mixture froze almost at once, locking the support in a jagged line that glittered under the porch light. If the bucket freezes solid tonight, those joins will turn harder than stone. Overhead, a sparrow dipped from the eave, flicked powder from its wings, and glided across the bright rim of the fort.
