Clamp Caught by a Glue Drop-

English 原文
The left notch on the clamp rack showed only a bright stripe of untouched cloth. Earlier the smallest clamp had blocked the magnifying lamp’s glare from that spot. Tobias leaned closer, and the plastic terrarium he hoped to mend wobbled under the light. Its cracked wall framed a tiny green newt that had once been the prize specimen of a young naturalist playset. He had already dabbed a thin bead of white glue along the split. Without that narrow clamp, the joint gaped open and a shadow-edge darkened the gap. He tried a wider clamp instead. Rubber jaws skidded across the curved surface and flung a fleck of wet glue yonder onto the cloth. Tobias paused to ponder another solution while the glue began to skin over in the heat.
Leaving the terrarium untouched, he crossed to the parts box at the table’s far side. Holly was painting a wooden owl; her brush hovered in tiny arcs under the same bright lamp. Tobias sifted through compartments until two replacement wheels rolled into his palm for a different repair. Beside him, a half-filled water cup shimmered; rinsed pigment drifted like smoke through the back-lit surface. He set the wheels down and tapped his brush clean on the rim. The tap sent a slender ribbon of water across the cloth. The ribbon crept along a fold and reached the glue bottle’s base. Moisture softened an old crust that had been holding the bottle upright. The bottle leaned forward by a finger’s width, and a pearly drop bulged before sliding free. It landed behind the rack and stuck fast to a metal spring. Tension from the glue thread drew a small clamp that had been trapped out of sight. A glint appeared as that jaw slid into the lamp’s gleam.
A faint ping echoed when the freed clamp bumped the terrarium’s base. Tobias steadied the tilting glue bottle, halting any further spill. The runaway clamp now rested beside his elbow, as though the table had politely returned it. He wiped the rubber pads clean and positioned them over the cracked plastic. Then he turned the screw just enough to press both sides flush. No excess glue oozed, and the shadow-edge between panels vanished under steady luminance. Holly kept dabbing her owl’s feathers while Tobias lifted the repaired terrarium toward the drying shelf. Light rippled through the clear walls as Tobias held the toy mid-air, the clamp’s screw turning slowly beneath his thumb.
