Ripples From a Sparrow-

English 原文
A pair of bright boots already straddled the leaf mosaic beside the path, their owner kneeling to explore watery patterns. Wade slowed, noticing scattered leaves pressed flat by rain, their spicy smell rising like outdoor potpourri warmed by thin sunlight. His father hummed along the gravel ahead, giving Wade quiet space to crouch beside the already working stranger. The stone depression had been carved decades earlier to drain water, yet today it cradled a clear, shallow mirror. Golden light spilled across the puddles, and a faint spectrum shimmered where oil traces floated between curled oak leaves. Wade had planned to trace circles around every pool, recording how drip rings mixed leaf colour and reflected sky. A sparrow rattled damp wings on a bench rail, adding taps to the scene like the second voice in a duet.
A slow breeze parted the clouds; sunshine strengthened, and puddle edges shrank, leaving pale rims on darkened stone. Drips from the overhanging branch quickened, the sound climbing toward a soft crescendo that shattered each newborn reflection. The moss lining the border drank greedily, its cushion brightening while the water Wade studied slid away into soil. He drew one careful circle, yet the next surface thinned before his stick touched it, exposing sticky grit beneath. If the sun stayed high, every mirror would disappear before he finished half his plan, so change became unavoidable. He chose the widest puddle lying under partial shade, deciding one perfect design mattered more than many half-formed attempts. The kneeling girl mirrored him, and together their boots marked a neat frame around the single, slowly shrinking canvas.
They nudged loose petals inward, guiding them across the water until colours twirled in quiet swirls of amber and russet. The sparrow hopped closer, its tiny feet sending concentric ripples that blended smoothly into the painted circle. When the next heavy drop struck, rings slid outward, reached the mossy rim, and left the picture still complete. Wade loosened his grip on the stick and let it fall beside his boot; the silence agreed. Sunlight flashed across the shared puddle once more, then the bright band drifted inward, narrowing as quiet footsteps moved away.
