The Bottle's Sudden Spray-

English 原文
A low hum pressed against Wren’s shoes while the wheel spun beneath the damp clay lump he tried to centre. Several trimming loops had been carefully cleaned earlier, yet chalky streaks still roughened their handles. He had wedged the clay twice already during warm-up, yet uneven stiffness still lingered inside the block. He cupped his palms around the cool lump, guiding it inward, yet a ridge jarred his thumbs every turn. The outer skin had stiffened during the carry from the prep board, while the warmer core still slid easily. Extra studio practice could foster steady hands, yet the rising cylinder sagged, leaning toward the splash pan before folding on itself. He lifted the collapsed mass, slapped it back on the disc, and noticed a folded academic conference program beside the pedal. A group on a studio visit paused near the rack, their shuffled steps sending faint vibrations through the floor.
Wren dipped his fingertips into the grey basin water and pressed the foot pedal, trusting slower speed to tame the drift. Moisture slicked the walls at once, but the hidden warm core bulged again, nudging his left palm outward. That tiny shove tipped a wooden rib inside the tool jar; the rib fell, struck the spray bottle, and sent it rolling. The bottle bounced against the splash pan, squeezed its trigger, and misted a fine arc of water across the spinning clay. The added water softened the base so the form lurched under its own weight against the wheel’s steady push. Steam rose where the warmer center met the cool air, a brief revelation of trapped heat.
Wren caught the bottle before it rolled off the table, noting its light weight and the steady drip running along his wrist. The near-empty sprayer offered just enough moisture for one final sweep, so he misted the rim and steadied his thumbs closer together. With lower speed and steady pressure, the wobble eased until the walls rose evenly, leaving a faint spiral on the surface. Light from the corridor window shifted toward evening, tinting the wet clay a gentle amber. The final drop slid from the spray nozzle and curved along the spinning rim, circling away into the splash pan.
