English 原文
Only a faint circle of moisture marked the porch step; the glass jar itself now balanced in Drake’s grasp. He crouched to inspect the inside and found a trace of lemonade that had begun to congeal into a cloudy film. A parent sorted garden tools behind the screen door, soft clinks weaving with the cricket wall. Drake aimed this evening to collect three fireflies so their joint glow would fill the jar. Holding the perforated lid against his wrist, he took a careful stride toward the flower-bed edge. A quicksilver pulse floated above the blue-grey stems, blinking twice before lingering in the air. He waited through two blank beats, counted a third heartbeat, then lowered the jar gently. One insect slid inside, but its single glow left the glass mostly dark, showing the threshold still distant.
He crossed to the hose coil where dew had beaded like tiny mirrors across the black rubber. The rubber surface, slick and cold, instantly challenged his balance on the narrow stepped stone. Another green flash hovered near the nozzle, blinking with an irregular rhythm that teased his timing. Drake timed his reach with its rhythm and eased the jar upward; the lid scraped across, capturing the second light. Twin sparks now spiralled within the curved glass yet still failed to brighten the centre. Dusk thickened, erasing stone outlines, and an unplanned breeze swung the screen door so it groaned behind him. Farther out on the open lawn a fresh quicksilver blink rose, paused, and faded into the blue-grey air. He stood between pulses, counting silently and letting the jar hang steady at waist height. When the glow returned, he lifted the mouth quickly, and the jar finally closed around it. Three overlapping lights flared; the weak lens of the jar magnified them, and the interior shifted from murky to pale green.
Drake rocked the vessel level and watched the swirling trio paint soft rings on the frost-white glass. The metal lid, damp from his palm, loosened without noise, and the insects drifted upward, disappearing among the jasmine leaves. A loose petal, jarred free by their wings, landed on the rim and glimmered for a second before sliding onto the grass.
