English 原文
The blue-grey glass stood steady, but the red one quivered whenever Moritz nudged the table. He and Alma leaned over the celery row, tracking the coloured bands that climbed inside the pale ribs. A notebook lay open beside them, and pencils waited in a ragged line near a folded handkerchief. When Moritz slid the handkerchief farther under the red glass, its base lost support and began a slow tilt. Thin daylight slid through the window, scattering silver reflections inside the glasses and carving frost-white highlights on the stalks. He steadied the glass with two fingers, then measured the climb: four centimetres of red, three of blue, two of yellow. The lower leaves already showed a stripe of decay, yet crisp vitality still shone near their tips.
A metallic clang burst from the sink; a dripping tap had knocked a spoon against a steel bowl. Moritz crossed the tiles to hush the racket, drying his damp fingers on the nearby kitchen towel. During those few steps, Alma shifted toward the windowsill to compare colours in the brighter strip of sunlight. When they returned, the light touched the glasses differently, and denser red floated like smoke at each bottom. Alma’s elbow brushed the table; the red glass rocked, bumped the blue, which nudged a pencil toward the magnifying glass. The pencil rolled and tapped the lens Moritz had propped earlier, sending the round glass sliding toward the yellow beaker. Alma thrust a wooden ruler into the gap; the strip bent with quiet forbearance and arrested the lens without a splash. A sharper celery scent drifted out, mixed with the chemical sweetness of dye that spread unseen beneath the towel. Coloured droplets quivered on the rim, and a ribbon of red water slipped along the ruler, drifting across the towel’s weave.
