English 原文
Three pale water rings had gathered on the sunny windowsill since yesterday. Greta slid her palm across them while settling her glass. She had repeated the prism trick here many afternoons because the late beam always arrived through the high pane. Now a shallow scratch marred the paint beside the rings, a line she did not remember from spring. Behind her, Suki reclined on the sofa, book raised, the pages catching the same warm glow. A dry smell of heated paint drifted upward whenever the curtain lifted and dropped again under the slow draught. Tiny bubbles clung inside the water, each a trembling lens already bending flecks of colour.
Greta angled the glass toward the wall; a bold ribbon of red to violet began to stretch above the skirting board. Her mouth curled at the warm luster bathing the plaster, yet sunshine no longer touched her half-painted wooden bird. Wet, the paint stayed sticky and a faint print marked her fingertip when she checked it. Fixing the rainbow had stolen the heat the figurine needed to dry before dinner. “That colour band moved again,” Suki noted without looking up. Greta needed to adapt quickly, or the wooden bird would keep its tacky surface long after the rainbow faded. She slid the glass two centimetres back; colours weakened, but a sliver of sun brushed the bird’s wing.
The compromise held, though neither wall nor figurine reached the earlier flourish of brightness. While steadying the setup, Greta noticed the postcard beside the figurine, the one showing a quiet stone chapel at dusk. A miniature spectrum from the trapped bubbles darted across the picture, turning the roof ruby and the doorway indigo. She leaned closer, eyebrows lifting as the rainbow fragment flickered on details she had never watched before. Her elbow grazed the damp sill, wiping a curved track through settled dust; the newly bright timber caught the light and gleamed. Sunlight shifted again, climbing along that clean arc and leaving it shining.
