Updraft Over the Quiet Stones-

English 原文
"This flat one fits."
Felix slid the stone onto the first layer, and a dull click echoed along the riverbank. Waves slapped the nearby rocks with a steady hollow rhythm while pebbles rattled under his boots each time he shifted weight. He had planned to raise a tower as tall as the five-layer columns shining farther along the gravel, and the dry stone pile beside him still offered plenty of choices. When he lifted each candidate, a soft grainy scrape rose, and the dusty scent of sun-baked surfaces drifted around his knees. A wet stone from the waterline gave a bright glint under the slanting sun, but a thin film hissed as it slid between his fingers, so he set it aside. The nearby towers stood like quiet teachers; their stacked edges showed the simple wisdom of wide bases and narrow tops without uttering a sound.
Gusts began to whistle through the exposed spot, turning the earlier hush into a scatter of quick clacks. Felix noticed a surprising lack of truly level pieces after the third layer; every reachable stone rocked or carried a hidden bump. A perceptive thumb brushed the underside of one promising oval, and a tiny ridge ticked against his nail. He tried it anyway. The moment his hand lifted, a warmer updraft rising from the sun-soaked boulder nudged the ridge off center. The upper pair wobbled, tapped twice, and the small tower collapsed in a rattling chain that rolled pebbles toward the water. Each scattered piece sounded like an explorer tapping the lid of a hidden chest, testing for space beneath.
He gathered the least-damaged stones, choosing only three that still lay within arm’s reach. With slower breaths and shorter movements, he rebuilt a modest two-layer column. The breeze hummed around it, yet the rounded shapes stayed silent. A final faint ring came from the top stone as his fingers left its edge and the new, smaller tower held.
