The Last Drop Reveals the Hermit Crab-

English 原文
"Spot the hermit under that kelp."
Selene crouched on the warm upper shelf, placing one knee on dry salt crust while her free hand steadied the notebook. The ledge’s broad granite surface offered unexpected luxury compared with the slippery mid-shelf, and Selene leaned forward without wobbling. An opulent curtain of brown weed arched into the crevice like slow fabric, serving as a nurturer for hidden snails. Below the fronds, a hermit crab rested, yet sunlight bounced off water and masked the markings she hoped to sketch. She had filled a plastic cup with clear pool water earlier, intending to rinse drifting silt before the tide returned. Behind her, the camera had been positioned on a tripod, and its blinking light reflected tiny amber dots on the wet stone. She tilted one measured third across the surface and waited; ripples flattened, yet a dusty sheen still hovered above the crab.
Heat rose across the ledge, and evaporating drops left salt crystals that snapped loose and sprinkled into the crevice. Those grains merged with the earlier dust, turning the water milkier and forming an unintended chain that blocked her view again. Selene poured a second measured third; cool water settled, lowered temperature, yet tiny crystals still drifted lazily. If another sprinkle formed, the little crab would disappear behind a cloudy curtain once more. She needed to record the faint green band, a hallmark of the species, before the returning tide covered everything. She waited through ten steady breaths, then upturned the remaining water, every drop sliding across weed and rock in a single ribbon. The cloud above cooled the stone, stopping further evaporation, and the surface cleared exactly as the cup finally ran dry. Below, the hermit crab inched sideways toward deeper shade, its striped shell glimmering along the sandy channel.
