The Claw Line on the Turning Bowl-

English 原文
A ribbon of resinous smell grew sharper each time Jethro guided the horsehair brush along the turning bowl. Before the stroke settled, a wren slipped through the half-open skylight and skidded onto the slowly revolving stand. Its wings flitted once, releasing a brief dissonance of drafts that teased the wet sheen. Between light hops the bird traced a shifting labyrinth of claw marks in the powder on the floorboards, while the pungent vapour from the fresh coat hovered midway between wood and ceiling.
A sudden clatter burst from the curing cabinet: the clay water tray had tipped, and droplets pattered against the cedar slats. Jethro set the brush down, shoulders jolting at the spill, and crossed the tacky floor in long strides. “Easy there,” he murmured, voice nearly lost beneath the drip’s uneven rhythm. He steadied the tray, mopped the puddle with cotton waste, then refilled the shallow dish until its surface lay flat again. The spill cooled, steam thinned, and silence tried a fragile diplomacy with the lingering scent.
Minutes bled away before he returned to the stand. The wren still perched at the rim, head cocked, feathers puffed just enough to suggest patience rather than alarm. One faint line now ran across the lacquer where a talon had brushed it; light bent through that ridge, turning the single stroke into a narrow valley of amber within the gloss. Jethro paused, fingers hovering above the cotton sanding pad. The pad waited like a small peacemaker, able to smooth the mark yet also able to keep it. After one slow breath he lifted the pad but did not lower it, deciding instead to rotate the stand further so the ridge caught more light.
The bowl spun, slower than before, and the earlier ribbon of scent had cooled to a barely tasted echo. The raised claw line refracted the north daylight into two separate glows, each shimmering beside the bird’s shadow. Jethro tilted the bowl toward the wren.
