English 原文
Heat thickened in the studio, rising and falling each time the furnace door slid open and then thudded shut.
On the wooden bench near the marver, Esme pressed her palms against the grain, the warmth drifting steadily into her skin. Across the floor, the blower fan exhaled on a regular three-count, while a thin line of water dripped from the overhead cooler every four. Two beats, unrelated, filled the air with soft percussion, and she counted them beneath her breath as Dashiel rolled a glowing gather on the pipe. The molten mass twirled like honey, translucent at the edges where the heat had just started to slide away.
Dashiel lifted the pipe toward her, the metal shaft humming beneath his glove, and the internal glow pulsed like a miniature sunset. She steadied the tip above the marver; the cooler steel leeched warmth in a narrow stripe, and embedded a firmer skin that bought a breath of control. An optimistic bubble of air left her lungs, travelled through the hollow pipe, and the globe swelled, not quite even. The fan kept its three-count, the drip kept its four, and she tried to decode their combined whisper for the right tempo of rotation. Tiny silver freckles remained embedded just beneath the surface, announcing every place her rotation hesitated.
Mid-roll, the fan stuttered; its next gust landed exactly between two droplets, and the rhythms locked. The sudden alignment doubled the sound, a resonant thrum that travelled through the pipe into her wrists and sent a torrent of steam upward from the wet block. She froze, pulse skipping; the glass sagged, weight redistributing faster than her arms adjusted. Dashiel slid beside her, his sleeve brushing hers, and together they lifted the pipe higher, letting gravity stretch the globe instead of collapse it. “The thickness is nearly even,” he said, voice low enough not to disturb the fragile rhythm now filling the room. Their combined breath entered on the next downbeat, and the shape settled, rounder than before, its translucent wall catching stray furnace light.
When the annealer door opened, they padded over and rested the pipe on its rack, glass still glowing but no longer fluid. The fan and the drip drifted apart again, their earlier convergence already sliding into background noise, yet her shoulders carried the after-pulse. Somewhere outside, a bell struck once, its cooled tone bouncing lightly through the skylight. Esme returned to the bench; a faint ring of condensed moisture now haloed the place where her palms had rested at the start. Warmth lingered in that circle, softer than the furnace blaze, and she let her fingers hover above it while the room continued its uneven counting.
