Finding a Paper Star in the Music Box-

English 原文
Every morning Ben unlocked the narrow repair-shop door at eight and tasted warm oil on the rising air.
Today the flavor carried something sharper, a hint of tin, and he paused.
He set two enamel mugs beside the bench lamp, yet boiled water filled only one.
His hand drifted toward the pegboard for the slim Phillips screwdriver; the pale outline stood out, empty.
The slight fissure in routine tingled on his palate like powdered copper.
Dust from yesterday's sanding sat on the counter like fine sugar, and a grain perched on his lower lip before he noticed.
He licked it away, tasting dry pine.
A brass music box waited under the lamp, its lid already removed, revealing gears the size of sunflower seeds.
Ben eased a broader driver into the first screw, but the head slipped, and the box slid; he caught it before it could stumble from the bench.
The sudden jostle clacked loose screws against the metal tray, sending a dry, iron taste across his teeth.
Before choosing the wider driver, he tapped the bench twice, a habit collected through countless repairs.
"That screw slips fast," Glen muttered, holding the flashlight so the cone of light skimmed the teeth.
Ben exhaled, tasted cold tea on his lip, and tried again, using his thumb to nudge the driver against the slot with gentler pressure.
Halfway through the final screw, the music box gave a soft ping, and the cylinder refused to rotate.
Ben drew back, lips parted, and a sweet-bitter varnish taste met his tongue, exactly the note that reached him whenever solder flux met metal.
He leaned closer; inside the gears a tiny fiber fluttered whenever the articulated lamp breathed warm air across them.
Each flutter made the cylinder twirl half a tooth before jamming.
Ben steadied the box, pinched the stray thread with tweezers, and lifted a bundle no larger than a breadcrumb into the lamp's circle.
Caught in the glare, the bundle unfolded into a paper star smeared with dried resin, an unexpected stowaway that freed the cylinder.
The music box chimed a clean scale, each note hanging like lingering sugar on the air.
Glen nodded once, carried the flashlight toward the front counter, and the workshop settled back into its hush.
Ben returned the broad driver to its hook, hesitated at the vacant outline beside it, then folded the paper star and slid it into his apron pocket.
He tapped the bench twice, just as before.
The taste in the room had shifted; mellow sweetness rested on his tongue while the empty outline stayed bright under the lamp.
Outside, the delivery bell rang faintly; inside, the warmed wood held the echo.
