The Uneven Stitch Beneath the Teapot-

English 原文
Sara tilted the kettle, and a pencil-thin stream arced into the clay teapot resting at arm’s length on the low table.
Her weight shifted forward, toes digging against the straw mat to keep the pour steady. The kettle lid shivered just once, a tremor she read through the handle before heat touched her palm. Outside, rain that had murmured all morning thumped harder, the first hint of a squall rolling across the roof tiles. Inside, the room answered with a deeper hush, as though thick wood absorbed every unrelated sound. Steam spiraled from the spout, brushing her wrist before drifting toward the ceiling's darkened beams.
She leaned back, spine easing, and slid the teapot onto a quaint wooden tray whose surface carried faint rings of past steepings. Three cups waited in a neat row; she balanced elbow and wrist so each vessel received equal measure. Only then did she notice the coaster under the pot had turned, its embroidered edge revealing a single uneven stitch of white cotton. That sliver of thread sat slightly proud, catching the dim light the way a grain of sand interrupts a still floor. She rolled her shoulders and reached again, fingertips hovering over the cloth before retreating without contact.
A breath later, the lid of the vintage clay pot clicked against its rim, and the sound jolted her stance. Her hips shifted, balance sliding toward her left heel, mid-adjustment before mind supplied intention. Somebody had moved that coaster earlier; the stray angle, the restless thread, the tiniest rotation—each alone forgettable, together unmistakable. She poured again, slower, letting the teapot act as a quiet incubator, warmth steeping the leaf until colour deepened toward copper. Nina, seated cross-legged on the opposite cushion, lifted one cup, offered no comment, only raised brows that dipped in silent acknowledgment. Sara paused, palm hovering above the tray; residual heat brushed her knuckles, outlining a quiet boundary of warmth. Outside, the squall ebbed, and the roof drip settled into intervals that echoed the measured pour.
Sara placed the last cup beside the others and rose, her knees straightening in a slow uncoiling before she stepped toward the courtyard doorway. The tray remained at the table’s center, three cups cooling, amber surfaces quivering as each remaining drip slid from the teapot’s spout. Steam thinned, the uneven stitch held its small flag of white, and the wooden scoop lay askew against the coaster’s new orientation.
