English 原文
A ribbon of copper light skipped across the lighthouse lens when the small lamp inside blinked. Wade paused at the top landing and breathed the faint salt drifting up the stairwell. His toes pressed the cool iron grate, and he watched the huge glass panels start their slow spin. Yorick, the keeper, rested a hand on the winding wheel fixed to the floor gears and smiled. Yorick glanced toward the handle and said, "The crank turns smoothly when your hands are ready." Wade journeyed the last two steps, took the wooden crank, and turned it gently. The hidden weight inside the column dropped a thumb’s length and tightened the winding chain. Cogs answered with even ticks, and the lens glided a little faster. Gear tinkering had become his quiet hobby during long afternoons at school. One day, a classmate's help arrived in the form of tiny files passed quietly across the table. A spare brass wheel from that classmate now rattled in Wade’s pocket.
He tried another slow turn with both hands gripping the smooth wooden handle. The rope coiled snug around the drum, and a deeper click echoed through the tower. A faint scent of oil rose and drifted along the stair rail toward the open hatch. Cool air carried the hush of waves and the scrape of shells below. The sound floated between the stone walls, mixing with the constant tick of hidden gears. On his third turn the spare wheel slipped from his pocket and spun across the floor mesh. It rolled along the iron plate and settled against a small magnet beside the main cog. The lens stopped for one breath while the new piece clicked softly against the magnet. It started again, leaving only a brief jolt in the steady whirl. Outside, the edge of sunrise brushed the sea, coloring the glass ribs in pink stripes. Together they set the brass wheel under the magnet as a tiny badge of the morning. Yorick pressed it flatter with his thumb, and Wade traced a slow circle around the mark.
