The Feather That Blocked the Oil Funnel -

English 原文
Glug-glug echoed inside the lighthouse cellar as thick lamp oil slipped into a copper funnel.
Birch steadied the funnel rim with both hands, and Lars tilted the tin can slowly. The routine felt familiar to Birch; warm metal pressed into his palms, and mineral smell hung under stone. Salt air drifted through a high grate, cool against their cheeks and carrying the distant seaweed smell. Small splashes tapped the glass reservoir below, a rhythm he could almost think of as ticking.
A cooler draft slipped through a floor vent, and the oil thickened inside the narrow neck. The flow paused, then a single bubble rose, wobbled, and burst against the funnel wall. Outside, a gull crossed the window with a jubilant screech and dropped a pale feather inside. The feather twirled once and landed upright, blocking the passage so pressure lifted the dark surface. In principle the funnel still worked, yet oil began to swirl back toward Birch's cuffs.
Birch kept the funnel steady. He reached for a smooth glass rod resting beside a bottle of green ink. He guided the feather to the rim; thick oil glided over his knuckles and resumed its drip. A dark bead ran along the quill and plopped onto the stone, leaving a unique stain. The stain spread into the shape of a tiny narrator crouched over an invisible page. Lars nodded and said, "The lens will shine clear tonight." Birch set the rod in a shallow tray. He lowered the empty tin onto a wooden block and folded the wiping cloth into a square.
