English 原文
Hector stepped down from the sandy path onto a textured slab of granite, its surface striped with dried salt. The small basin beyond the slab held water clear as glass, yet shapes raced beneath, darting shadows tilting with each pulse of light. Sunlight met the ripples, and a momentary euphoria floated across the pool as scattered sparks danced over the shells. One green glass bead lay at the deepest ledge, the souvenir he had dropped while unpacking sketches, and he wanted it back before the tide returned. He kneeled, palm steady on the stone, and watched the bead wobble whenever an anemone’s slow gesture stirred the water.
A metre behind him, earlier that afternoon, Pia had arranged their artisanal meal on a flat rock that still held midday warmth. Olive bread, a twist of cheese, and a jar of herb relish sat arranged like a still-life until a finishing breeze tipped the jar sideways. Green flecks lifted, scattered, then settled as a drifting ribbon that slid into the pool and burst apart, fine sediment clouding the lower layer. She capped the jar again, unaware of the swirl below, and drifted toward tide-polished pebbles to hunt colours for her mosaic kit.
Later, when sunlight stretched longer shadows, Hector guided a twig into the pool, hoping gentle pressure would roll the bead up the slanted floor. The bead shifted, then slipped behind cloudy water where the herb ribbon still drifted, and his wrist stalled mid-air. Pia returned with a handful of pink shells; her weight on the rock sent concentric ripples across the surface. "Is that your bead?" she asked, lowering a wooden spoon so its bowl could scoop instead of stir. Side by side they herded glass and spoon against sediment until both bead and a walnut-sized geode rolled free. Hector pocketed the bead while Pia examined the cracked stone, then she straightened, wiped salt from her fingers, and stepped toward the rising path.
The wooden spoon lay abandoned at the water's edge, its handle darkened where the tide-pool brine had climbed the grain, and a single bead of trapped water glided down the shallow curve of the bowl before dropping into the pool with the faintest concentric shiver. A handspan away, the fractured geode rested among scattered shells; pale crystals, once hidden, caught the low sun yet gave back only muted flashes, while a veil of green sediment drifted above them, rose, then settled again, marking time in patient, circular loops across the textured surface of the silent basin.
