Sun-Warmed Tape Bends the Bracelet -

English 原文
"This stripe is hot."
Hattie shifted the taped threads away from the sun band and pressed a palm to the metal armrest.
Six smooth threads fanned across the shade-sun boundary like a small manta gliding under clear water, their waxy coats catching a pale shine. A distant page turned on the grass where an adult read, and beads in a cup made a soft glassy rattle. The armrest showed a shallow carving of a lion, its edges dulled to silver-grey; people link lions with fortitude, and the old marks held thin scratches. Hattie lined up the chevron on her pattern card, then tied a forward knot; the thread creaked and hugged the row. The sun stripe warmed one taped end, so she added another strip across it, smoothing the edges flat. She tested the amount of pull on the left pair, and the band held straight.
She worked two more rows, then the left edge arced right, a slow bend that grew with each backward knot. The warmed tape looked slicker and a corner lifted, so she added a third strip that overlapped the first two and pressed hard until the tape crinkled. To counter the drift, she reached into the thread bag for the bead cup, released tension, and the threads slid a finger-width before she caught them. She steadied the anchor with the cup’s cool rim and tried to manipulate the next knot exactly on the line, but the curve returned, thin as a pencil mark. Hattie touched the sun band again; the metal felt warmer there than the blue-grey shade, and the stacked tape sprawled a little, as if the layers were slowly creeping.
She peeled off the middle strip.
With two layers instead of three, she shifted the remaining anchor fully into the shade, seating it on the cooler metal so the edges lay flush. The next forward knot tightened with a small creak, and the chevron straightened across the shade like a ruler. Two pigeons crossed the paving stones and sent faint echoes up from the pale slabs. Hattie checked the length against her wrist, then set the bead cup back in the bag and tied one more row. A faint sticky rectangle marked where the extra strip had been, and a thin curl of peeled tape stirred along the armrest in the light breeze.
