Owl Whistle Sets Tin Plates Ringing at the Market -

English 原文
"The little whistle fits on this cloth."
A small hand set a clay owl on linen and tapped the hollow side once. Cool shade pooled under the canvas while sun warmed the stones and brightened the copper bowls. A market cat slid onto a soft cushion beneath the table and pressed its front paws. Thread showed a small badger stitched there, its back raised by packed cotton inside. Voices layered across the lane, then thinned, leaving a clear space of ordinary chatter. The child blew, and the owl whistle gave a bright tone that bounced off clay jars. The cat tucked its paws and lifted its head; its ears turned toward that pitch. A metal scoop touched a tin bowl nearby, and a clean ring slid under the whistle.
The whistle rose and fell; quick breaths made short notes that stepped across the stall. Each note met the jars and came back brighter, stacking into a faint trembling thread. At the metal stall, thin plates rested in a neat pile on a low plank. Whenever a cup landed there, their edges ticked together and carried a light rattle across. One high note matched the plates, and their rims shivered while the buzz grew stronger. Under the table, the cushion hummed against the cat’s chest, and its whiskers quivered forward. It pressed down, turned once in the shade, and settled with ears gently laid back. From another lane, coins clinked inside a small pouch that held pieces of mixed value. The owl kept singing, and the plates kept ringing, sharper then softer as hands shifted cups. Heat on the square softened a wax bead on a nearby candle, and it melted. The pale drop slid onto the top plate’s rim; the bright ring thudded.
