The Wiped Circle on the Glass and the Column of Air -

English 原文
Willa set her palm against the greenhouse glass, braced for sun-soaked warmth; cool condensation jumped first, and her fingers lifted mid-touch.
Moisture beaded and ran under her wrist as she shifted her weight, and the stone flags printed a faint chill through her shoes.
Behind her elbow, a hanging basket tapped its slow rhythm on the stone, and sweet dampness rose like breath from the compost.
Earlier this morning, by the potting bench, Lyle tapped a small cloth bag against his palm; rosin snowed a pale grit that clung to his lines.
He turned one eyebrow toward her with a quizzical lift, and the twine met his tacky fingers, biting the bamboo stake without slipping.
“These go by the tomatoes today, or nearer the door?” she said, her voice thin in the warm air.
Soil pressed under her nails from yesterday’s seedlings, and the warm air filmed her forearms before the thermometer needle even twitched.
He set the stakes in a neat bundle by the door, their ends aligned, and the cord made a shallow V across his wrist.
She cranked the ridge vent a quarter turn; a narrow column of cooler air slid past her cheek, and the lighter leaves tipped as if nodding.
Across the panes, steamier bands of fog concealed the yard beyond, and her hand’s quick withdrawal from the glass left a crescent of clear arcs.
She lifted the watering can by its iron handle expecting heft, yet the half-full body rose too fast, and water rang the clay rim.
She cupped a leaf from below, its underside faintly cool where light had not reached, and a bead gathered at the tip, ready to fall.
Lyle set the trowel down on the stone, then wiped a stripe through yesterday’s mineral crust inside a saucer, showing pale clay where water had sat.
Near the back wall, trays waited unchanged, and a curled yellow leaf rested by a stem; he nudged it aside, careful not to scatter the fine roots.
“The vent can wait for the sun,” he said, and the pipe above ticked once.
The watering can tilted, darkening a ring through pale soil, and a stray stream kissed the pot’s rim with a bright, single chime.
Back by the glass, Willa stood where her crescent still shone, and higher up a neat circle cleared into the fog sat at Lyle’s shoulder height.
A droplet slid between the circles, catching green light, then lost its edge and merged with the track that yesterday’s drip had carved.
Between the two marks, the band of moisture had climbed since morning, the drips stepping around old paths, and light pooled green on the damp floor.
Beyond the pane, the yard stayed a blur, while on this side the two clear shapes marked height and time with nothing more than water and touch.
She set her palm to the glass again, slower this time; warmth gathered under her skin, and a faint grit of rosin held one speck of soil.
