The Bronze Coin and the Ring Under the Lens -

English 原文
Beyond the window, neat lines of saplings signaled reforestation, each guard a pale sleeve in the glare.
On the white tray inside, a darker ring held like a damp trace beside the lens.
Clouds glanced across the sun, and the brick facade opposite flared, then softened, then flared again over the table.
Shadows lengthened over the paper, retreated, and left a bright oval where the window threw its beam.
On the wall, a rectangle of glare slid upward by roughly half a brick.
A wall clock counted dry seconds, a patient tick that spaced the air without touching hands or tools.
Somewhere under the desk, a pencil rolled an inch, paused, and waited for a palm.
Each click met the wood as a faint tremor, barely enough to stir a fingertip.
Lily eased the heavy lens over the ring and lowered it until the circle of focus crisped against the paper.
Grant set a bronze coin and a small airplane fuselage beside the tray, careful not to bump the arm.
Its rim showed tiny nicks, and the coin’s edge had a shallow bevel from years of pockets.
He said, "Here are extras, if the circle grows dull."
The fuselage’s tail rose into the circle and robbed the lens of clearance, so the rim tapped metal and trembled.
Lily slid the piece back an inch, then hovered the glass above the ring while the clock kept its even measure.
Light thinned at the oval on the tick, and the bright edge paused there.
Her right hand froze mid-reach, thumb lifted from the brass rim and hovering still.
She tilted the tray a breath, and the ring shifted from dark to pale, more raised fibre than moisture.
Under the glass, the paper’s weave stood like low hills, and along the ridge ran tiny scuffs in a circle.
Lily placed the bronze coin over the mark, waited for the flare to pass, and lifted it into the beam.
Through the lens, a building facade on the coin broke into narrow lines and square windows, each edge soft with wear.
Grant said, "Not water, then; the coin’s weight leaves marks like that sometimes here."
Lily pressed one fingertip near the ring, then pulled it back and left the paper uncleaned.
She set the coin aside, kept the fuselage far from the circle, and sketched the ridge with small, slow strokes.
Her shoulders lowered to the clock’s spacing as the bright oval steadied on the paper.
When the sun slid free again, she closed the sketchbook, nudged the arm higher, and stepped away from the table.
Outside, the saplings held their thin shadows straight while a small breeze lined the sleeves.
The lens hung above the tray, its circle of focus parked just shy of the ring.
Warmth pooled on the paper where the bronze coin had rested, while a faint ridge caught a slow slant of light.
Farther back, the fuselage sat with a tiny scuff on its tail, and the pencil balanced against the tray’s rim.

Lily
