The Bobber’s Signature and the Salt on the Flagstone -

English 原文
Elise lifted the rod that waited in the railing's notch, the cork grip bearing a thumb-polish like a quiet signature from hands not hers.
The butt leaned against a flagstone wedge by the post, its grain holding a thin damp shine from the tide's last reach.
She let her palm settle, and the cork warmed under it; when her fingertip touched her lip, a faint bitter tasted of old bait and creosote.
Far out, the painted bobber rocked inside its own small circle, while the line near the tip held attendant curls that the water slowly drew straight.
Ned sat a step away, knees to the planks, his rod resting between two stones and his thermos uncapped.
"Here," he said, offering a lidful that had cooled to a mellow sip tasting of tin and weak tea.
A cormorant surfaced beyond the pilings, shook silver drops, and left a widening ring that the bobber visited and then left behind.
Behind them, the reel's drag wheel clicked once under his thumb, a soft sound that matched the water's patient counting against the posts.
Elise lined her index along the cork, so the monofilament's tiniest tremor reached skin before the float confessed anything to the eye.
The baseline returned—rock, settle, rock—and she waited through it, tasting brine gathering at the corner of her mouth as the air dried her lips.
The tip gave a thin nod, and her shoulder rose, but the nod died, so she let the rod sink a finger's width.
Another dip came, brief and sharp, followed by a sideways drift narrower than the painted seam on the bobber.
Weed or mouth, she lifted a hair's thickness and then returned to stillness, the cork's shy vibration distinct from the bobber's tidy grammar.
Ned pinched a split-shot from a small tin, rolled it between finger and thumb, and set it aside, then watched her water instead of his.
"That drift is light," he said, voice low enough to sit under the lapping, which tasted faintly of salt when breath slipped past teeth.
His float steadied after a twitch, and his free hand smoothed the cork grip on his own rod until its temperature matched his palm.
A service cart trundled the length of the pier; each plastic wheel skipped the same seam in the boards and left their water untroubled.
Elise eased the butt back to the flagstone, then kept her hand there, not lifting, not leaving, just tracing the stone's cool edge.
The bobber rocked on, ordinary again, while the line between tip and surface held a single tone that her fingertip registered and then released.
The flagstone wore a pale salt bloom she had not noticed, and when her fingertip brushed it, the taste ran chalky and clean across her tongue.

- wheel
