English 原文
"The channel lip sits lower here."
Nessa crouched on the rough-dry ledge above the lower channels, and Luke steadied his camera beside her knee. Spray hissed below, and a gurgle ran through the rock cuts as bubbles ticked along the rims. She aimed to sketch the hermit crab that scraped its borrowed shell along the narrow, sunlit band. Glare bounced off the surface like hammered tin, and the bright stripe hid the legs and turning track. She propped her pack upright to cast shade, winning one handspan of dull water, still not enough to read ridges. The kelp fringe rustled with wet leaves, and a slow drip tapped the notebook balanced on her other knee.
Salt crystals cracked under her shoes as she climbed to the dry observation rock, where her field box waited. She slid open the shallow drawer, its runners clicking, and pulled two dark cards that had a crisp, papery edge. Back at the channel, her quick steps sent a soft thud through the shelf, and a turnstone hopped, pebbles rattling. One small stone plopped downstream into the groove, and a hermit crab tucked tight, its shell giving a single dull scrape. She leaned in and set the first dark card against pack, widening the shade to two handspans, yet a glare stripe remained. Water gurgled through a crack, and a fish flicked past, brushing weed tips that pattered fresh drops onto her waiting page. She bridged the gap with the second card, and the bright band vanished at once, like a switch clicked under shallow glass.
The crab moved again, legs ticking against sand, while bubbles popped in neat bursts along the rim between brief quiet patches. Even with shade, a trace of uncertainty clung to the count after each ripple, so she watched for repeating steps before marking. A heavier drip tapped twice from the weed, and her hand jerked back as the page took a dark oval stain. She slid a flat shell under the hanging stems, tilted it, and drops landed there with ticks, not near the tucked crab. Luke lowered camera and said, "The tide sounds louder now," while spray hissed beyond, and the wet line climbed a dark finger. Up on the shelf near the cliff path, Luke framed another pool, and his shutter pattered while a gull stepped among pebbles. At its rim, a periwinkle kept rasping in tiny bursts, and a pale bubble rose, paused, and thickened under the thin skin.
