Marnie’s Second Sky in the Glowworm Cave -

English 原文
Marnie ducked beneath the low stone arch and felt the day’s warmth lift off her skin, replaced by an even cellar-cool that steadied her breath.
Ronan moved behind her with a shorter step than usual; his normally intrepid stride softened to match the boatman’s pace along the narrow platform. The flat-bottomed boat waited with its gunwale at knee height, a rope drawn hand to hand across the slow river by the guide at the bow. Ronan, an architect, let his eyes skim the bare joints in the limestone wall, tracing the long seams water had penciled down across centuries without laying a finger on the rock. When they stepped in, the hull settled a palm’s width, and the platform’s faint edge of daylight slid away behind them.
The chamber lifted, and the first points appeared overhead, a blue-green scattering hung so high Marnie could not name a ceiling line. Each bright dot clung above a fall of fine threads, and the threads wore tiny beads that glinted whenever the boat drifted through a breath of air, a multifaceted display built from stone, silk, and wet. A sostenuto hush held the room, broken only by a single drip striking the river after a long count and the wet rasp of the rope through the guide’s hands. Marnie tilted her head back until her neck ached, then lowered her chin toward the water, hunting for a second sky under the first.
Nothing gathered where she expected it to live; the dark surface refused the overhead scatter and returned only a smear where the closest cluster burned. Her wrist slipped into the cold just past the gunwale, and the water curved around her bones, bending the faint points into loops that would not hold still. Elbows tucked, she drew her arm up and pulled her weight toward the center plank, then waited with her ribs barely moving, trying to eliminate even the smallest ripple her body could make. The ceiling kept its steady map, but the water began to quiet; a film of near-stillness spread from the bow back toward her knees.
The faintest pricks appeared beside her shoe, a handful, then two handfuls, all of them weaker twins of clusters directly above. Marnie did not breathe for a slow five-count as the mirror deepened, and the room’s dark seemed to press lower, shrinking the world to boat, rope, water, and the living light. A flat red glow blinked on along the far platform as another group stepped in from the entrance band, and the lower sky vanished at once, reduced to dull streaks while the upper constellations remained bright. The boat slid a body length farther from the bank and, as the red dimmed, the lower points returned in patches; Marnie’s gaze climbed back up and found another story in the same ceiling.
The brightest knots burned above silky lines where no midges hung, while dimmer patches sagged with tiny wings fixed inside the beaded strands. Ronan’s hand rested on the rope, wet fibers printing a ladder of marks across his palm as the hull slowed near a landing. The drip struck again with a clean note, the surface trembled into rings, and only the ceiling stayed uninterrupted.
