Lucas had promised the art club a striking header for their festival banner. The only free surface he could find before the bell involved an empty classroom and an enormous blackboard. Dust still floated where earlier equations had been erased. He checked his watch; the remaining timeframe, ten minutes, tightened his jaw. A single piece of chalk waited in the tray, its tip already worn flat. If he had planned better, he would have carried colored markers, yet the board would need to do.

He set the stub against the slate and began sweeping curves that would later guide paint strokes. The chalk squeaked, then snapped, leaving a jagged edge and scattering crumbs across his sleeve. He rotated the fragment with careful finesse and tried lighter pressure. The broken point produced a subtle, silvery line that faded when he stepped back. He frowned; dust blurred each letter. He wiped the board with his cuff, yet moisture from earlier cleaning left streaks. The outline had been praised by teammates in sketch form, but here it dissolved into pale confusion.

Short on options, Lucas searched the tray again. A thin yellow sliver, hidden beneath an eraser, revealed a bright core where plaster had chipped away. He tested it; vibrant lines gleamed against the dark surface. He traced over the weak strokes with yellow, and the new color covered every smudge. If the bell had rung then, the class would have entered to an unfinished mess, yet silence held. He added the final swirl as the hallway steps approached. Yellow arcs settled beside white ghosts, and the chalk dust cooled on the sill.

選項不多，路卡斯再度翻找粉筆槽。一片藏在黑板擦下的細黃碎筆露出斑駁的彩芯。他試畫一下，亮麗的線條在深色板面上閃耀。他用黃色覆寫先前淡掉的筆跡，新顏色遮住了所有髒痕。要是這時鐘聲響起，學生們推門就會看到半成品的凌亂，但走廊仍保持安靜。他在腳步聲臨近時畫上最後一道旋渦。黃色弧線停在白色殘影旁，粉筆灰在窗台上漸漸冷卻。
