Splashing foam pops near my ear.

I stand on wet sand.

I wait and watch.

Soft morning light glows across rocks.

A broken shell holds old breakfast bits.

Green moss crawls beside the shell.

The same rock now mirrors clear water.

A small crab waits under it.

Bright ripples cover its brown back.

Glare blocks my view of claws.

I raise one hand as shade.

The water image sharpens at once.

The crab steps into the light.

Another child whispers, "I solve this."

Tiny bubbles rise and tremble.

One bubble waits, then bursts skyward.

Salt drops reach my nose.

The crab slides below the rock.

A gull drifts away over water.
