Splash echoes as Zara lifts a cup.
She scoops wet sand fast.
She flips the cup down.
Sand sticks and will not drop.
Zara taps the thin rim.
The shape still stays inside.
A funny crab scuttles past.
Its tiny claw taps driftwood.
The tap shakes Zara’s cup.
Sand slides out at last.
A neat tower now stands.
Clyde watches from the pool.
"Nice tower," Clyde says aloud.
Zara asks Clyde for shells.
He brings smooth white pieces.
They start a pebble game.
Pieces circle the tall tower.
A small dog sniffs near.
The dog bumps one piece.
The circle opens like gate.
Zara pats the sandy nose.
The dog trots back downshore.
Warm light glows on sand.
Foam pops beside their finished tower.
