Warm sun lights the sand.
Darby sits on gritty ground.
Wind skims over flat water.
A small crab jumps sideways.
Another child crouches by rocks.
The child moves a bright bucket.
Shells slide from the rim.
Metal handle swings slowly forward.
The child laughs, "Quick crab, slow down!"
Darby watches the tiny chase.
Grains jump when a new gust arrives.
They tap Darby's ankle, then settle.
The wide beach becomes a playground.
Foam bubbles play around small pebbles.
Driftwood shadows swing across drying footprints.
Tiny drops tick on nearby rock.
Darby stays still and listens.
A gull cries over the tide pool.
